Yearly Archives: 2010

The 12th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance is just around the corner and they’re looking for volunteers to help make it the successful event it always is. If you want to help out, here’s the info:

On November 20th, San Francisco will observe the 12th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. Our communities will gather on the steps of City Hall from 6-7:30pm to listen to community leaders talk about violence against and within the transgender community; and at 7:30 we will march through the Tenderloin to the Ark of Refuge where we’ll celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost with food, dancing and performances from 8-10pm. More information is available at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=125523114171883

In order to make this year’s Day of Remembrance run smoothly and successfully, we’ll need volunteers to help with some key activities. Please email Morgan Weinert at morgan@lyon-martin.org to volunteer for one of the following shifts. Mark your top three preferences in case your first choice is already full.

Set up at City Hall (2-3 people): 5:30-6:00pm

Break down at City Hall (2-3 people): 7:30-8:00pm

March safety monitors (5-10 people): 7:30-8:30pm

Donation collectors (5 people): 6:00-8:00pm

Setup at the Ark of Refuge (5 people): 4-6pm

Breakdown at the Ark of Refuge (5 people): 10-11pm

Please email Morgan as soon as possible, but by Thursday, November 18th at
the latest. Your generous volunteer time will help make this year’s
Transgender Day of Remembrance a success. Thank you in advance!

The mistake’s been fixed, but in case there’s any lingering confusion, the March is totally ON and it’s next Friday, June 25. It’s gonna be a super amazing day, we can’t wait to see you there!

The San Francisco Trans March Announces the 2010 Theme and a New Mission and Vision

San Francisco, CA May 12th, 2010

The San Francisco Trans March today announced the release of the theme for the 2010 Trans March: United by Pride, United by Power. The 2010 Trans March theme acknowledges the pride, power, and resiliency found within our communities. United by Pride, United by Power is a direct reflection of the Trans March’s new mission and vision statements:

Our Mission and Our Vision…finally

So of course running on t-time, we’re just an eensy bit late with our mission and our vision, but we’re so very happy to announce that they’re now finally online:

We live in pretty crazy times, so our intention is that both these things be living documents that change and shift to remain current and pertinent. I mean, who knows what’s gonna happen in the next few years, right? Heck, sometimes I can’t even say what’s gonna happen in the next few days, can you?
